TAFE Motor Mechanic Training Course for Girls

Week Ten

Morning All!

Hope you had a great weekend - the weather was certainly accommodating!

Well, mercifully, week 2 of work experience was short - only 3 days instead

of 5. I can honestly say I have discovered the true meaning for the word

'boredom'. Boredom so complete you could taste, smell, touch and see it........

The first week was good but I shouldn't have been greedy and just stopped

there. Wise words once spoken say that too much of a good thing can be bad -

in this case, too much of a boring thing could only lead to insanity. I think you

get the point :) There were physical challenges - true - but for someone used

to having several things all on the go at once, mentally, waiting for oil to drain

just doesn't cut it. There was also a definite shift in attitudes from the staff -

and it wasn't a positive one. One of them was actually quite blunt when it came

to conveying his resentment at having to repeat himself - poor dear. (Funny,

he told me that more than once hahahaha).

I have left with a couple of souvenirs - mild tinnitus that's kept me awake for a

few nights running and a deep cut to the bone on my right thumb knuckle after

it was trapped between a flat surface and a cutting edge. Surprisingly, that

didn't hurt in the slightest - just a lot of bleeding.

So, all in all, work experience really helped to make a really big decision for

me and, after the course is over, I don't think I'll be pursuing a career under a

car bonnet.

On the up side, I am very glad I did take on the course and it has certainly

given me the much needed change from the office routine. My stress levels

dropped, my skin has cleared up and I have had the chance to explore an

avenue that always lurked in the background. But, when it comes down to the

wire, I need something to keep my mind firing creatively. The other big plus

gained from this will be the ability to know what really needs done when the

car goes for more than a minor servicing - which I can now do myself - and

not have to blindly go along with a mechanic's recommendations for

unnecessary work to be carried out. I'll certainly feel more confident about

that!

In the meantime, I will most certainly keep the newsletters coming through

every week - the course isn't over yet! Until the end, though, I'll be trawling

the job prospects with the aim to get back into the rat-race ASAP - at least the

rats I've been used to have conversational skills!

Next week should I should have a bit more to tell - especially after I hear how

Itchy & Scratchy have gone with their work experience. Until then, have a

great week!!

Cheers,

Fi xx ;)
