Fiona's LettersTAFE Motor Mechanic Training Course for Girls Week Eleven Hi Everyone, How time flies - it's May already!!! This week, the class numbers became frightenly low. There was only 3 of us on Monday and Friday - barely enough to make it worth the while of the teachers but they soldier on regardless. It must be really disappointing for them, though, to have gone to all the effort of putting the course material together only to have 3 people make a showing on a regular basis. The upside is that those of us who do show get extra attention and better hands-on activities than if we had a full class. This week was a little quieter but we still managed to get slugged with a few assessment tests along the way. Again, no great threat and they're pretty easy - it's almost shameful to admit to 100% for every test this week!! These were not just written but practical assessments as well. We had a bit more fun with the electrical module on Friday - rather than the dry theory, we managed to spend the whole day playing with wires, connectors and soldering irons. Having spent a large portion of my life having watched Dad solder things, I'd actually only ever picked up an iron once before. Still, something must have gotten through to me after all that watching as I found it pretty easy. My years in electronics helped when it came to stripping wires and crimping on the connectors as well - I only needed to do it once, not 2 or 3 times to get it right. By the afternoon we were given the task of rewiring a trailer lights connector lead - dead simple. Finished first with a perfect result when tested - having a horse trailer for ages also had its advantages! So, while the others were still cursing and getting frustrated with their job, mine was done, tested and packed up :) Nobody likes a smart-arse! hahahaha Well, ya gotta have a hobby.................... Since this was our first week back after work experience, some of us were comparing notes on how we'd all fared. And, yes, I managed to get the crap place to go - geeeze!! Oh, well, luck of the draw an' all - at least I know to steer clear of ever getting a job at a service station. OK, time to get ready for school tomorrow and check the job sites again (still looking!). Have a great week and I'll chat again soon! Cheers! Fi xx ;) PS: Overalls do make your bum look bigger. |
