TAFE Motor Mechanic Training Course for Girls

Week Thirteen

Hi Fellow Ice cubes!

Winter is unofficially here! The steel caps in my boots keep my feet warm all

day provided I heat them up with the hair dryer first. The wool socks stop the

heat from actually scorching my feet so it works out well. I have been banned

from wearing my boots and socks to bed at night - especially with the electric

blanket on. We're scared I'll short circuit the blanket and burn down the

house. Try putting that in 25 words or less on the insurance claim form.......

Speaking of electricity and all things electrical - we're still 'plugging' away at

this subject with no less than 3 teachers working on it during the week. We

had a practical exam on Friday - constructing a simple relay circuit and using

a multimeter to measure current from the two separate circuits within it. Mine

worked and the measurements were correct so no dramas there.

The second half of the first aid module was conducted - CPR with the

dummies (not Itchy and Scratchy - although one did turn up for 90 minutes).

Next time we're all demanding dinner and a movie before having to get down

on our knees and locking lips with a lifeless plastic lump. It's only fair. I don't

know why they use dummies - we can't revive them despite our best efforts!

One of the girls complained the next day of having sore muscles from doing

the chest compressions - she kept cracking the ribs on her dummy so she

should be thankful! Fingers crossed - we'll never have to put the training to

use for real.

We're all experts at making paper compound gaskets either with a ball pein

hammer or dye and scissors. It was just like art class in high school :) Perhaps

we could try for tie-dying or doing a bit of batik work with them next time.

Designer gaskets for the boys, designer gussets for the blue-rinse set.

Fabulous! It's sure to be a craze that will sweep the nation..........

The course is coming to a close and our last day is June 7th. Graduation day is

the 12th so that will be more tea and biscuits with suits from NRMA and, most

likely, uncomfortable conversations involving diaphragms from nervous

course co-ordinators. Fingers crossed and I will have a job to start soon after

so we can have a life again without worrying too much over the bank balance!

(More positive vibes, please - it worked really well last time).

Stay warm and I'll catch you again next week!

Cheers,

Fiona xx ;)
